Factors contributing to rising cesarean section rates in South Asian countries: A systematic review

Rising cesarean section (CS) rates are a global public health problem. The systematic review investigates key indications for performing CS and factors significantly associated with the rising rate of in South Asia. Primary studies Asia published between January 2010 December 2018 were searched using relevant electronic databases: MEDLINE, Scopus, PubMed, Web Science, CINAHL, NepJOL, BanglaJOL. A narrative synthesis was performed content analysis. total 68 included this review. most common medical indication fetal distress, followed by previous CS, antepartum hemorrhage (including placenta previa/abruption), cephalopelvic disproportion, failed induction, hypertensive disorders pregnancy, oligohydramnios, non-progress labor. Maternal request non-medical conducting CS. Higher maternal age significant factor higher education, urban residency, economic status, pregnancy/childbirth complications, lower parity/nulliparity. Preference increasing private number hospital also contributing to rate. Several indicators revealed. These reflect trend.
